Frequently Asked Questions
As a communications skills and life skills specialist, here are some of the questions I’m regularly asked about the DISC system.
1. We’re familiar with Myers-Briggs and other systems. Why bother with DISC?
2. Why should I choose Barry Jackson for my communication skills coaching?
3. Does your service stop when the coaching is over?
4. We have our own in-house communications skills training; we don’t outsource training
5. Other personality-based systems are too complicated. Surely DISC is too?
6. How much do you charge?
7. How do you measure the effectiveness of DISC coaching?
1. We’re familiar with Myers-Briggs and other systems. Why bother with DISC?
Myers-Briggs and some of its counterparts are great personality-based communication skills systems. However, with the elegant simplicity of just 4 main personality groups, DISC is a much simpler communication skills system – and therefore much easier to understand, learn and apply in the real world.
Did you ever notice how often training seems great while you are away on the course – then seems hard to apply back in the real world? From personal experience and the observations of others who have seen me benefit, I know that DISC is easy to apply quickly. From the moment you start to learn, in-fact.
IMPORTANT: don’t be influenced by the apparent similarity between DISC and other ‘four box’ personality matching systems. DISC is very different, DISC is a lot easier to learn and use in practice and DISC is an innovative approach to established wisdom. Contact me now for your FREE consultation.
2. Why should I choose Barry Jackson for my communication skills coaching?
• A long, successful sales career means you can be sure I know what I’m talking about
• Personal experience of the benefits of DISC
• One of the few accredited DISC coaches in the UK (and one of even fewer who was personally coached Dr Robert Rohm, the DISC system’s leading proponent)
• You work directly with the proprietor – for responsiveness, service and commitment to your goals
• When I deliver you get PASSION – from someone who has experienced the DISC difference
• Knowledge of sales (particularly the pharmaceutical and medical sales sector) – we’re talking the same language
• FREE demonstration presentation to your senior business decision makers.
3. Does your service stop when the coaching is over?
No. Communication skills, like all forms of coaching, benefit from regular reinforcement after the initial training. Before starting your DISC coaching, I will always agree with you an appropriate way to do this. Clients typically benefit from one or more of the following options:
• Planned follow-up review meetings (chargeable)
• One-to-one mentoring (chargeable)
• Ad hoc telephone or email contact to address specific challenges as they are encountered (free of charge, subject to reasonable usage).
4. We have our own in-house communications skills training; we don’t outsource training
Many organisations rely on in-house training. Had you thought about the possible benefits to be gained by introducing an external stimulus into your training?
The practicalities of running a business often mean that in-house trainers don’t run training sessions on any one discipline as often as a specialist does. If you’re choosing a business legal advisor, would you rather have one who practices corporate business one day a week and general law the rest of the time – or one who hones their company law skills every day?
To help you experience the benefit of using a professional external communications skills coach, I offer FREE initial presentations to senior decision makers. Contact me now to arrange yours.
5. Other personality-based systems are too complicated. Surely DISC is too?
No. And that’s one of the big benefits. DISC is probably the easiest of all the communication skills systems to understand and apply. Whether you’re a student working for finals or a road-weary technical salesperson, you’ll quickly see the benefits from your DISC coaching.
6. How much do you charge?
Nothing is costly if it creates wealth. In communications skills coaching, as when buying a car or hiring a team-member, quality doesn’t come cheap.
Because everyone’s exact needs are different, it’s impossible to quote an exact fee until I’ve properly understood your requirements. I’m confident that my fees are consistent with going market rates and the quality my services – and that you will enjoy superb value that goes on working for years ahead.
As a very rough guide, corporate rates are typically between £100 and £300 per person (for a 10-person, one-day course) depending upon client requirements. Individuals, educational establishments, non-profit-making organisations and small businesses can usually enjoy considerable price flexibility.
7. How do you measure the effectiveness of DISC coaching?
Before starting your DISC coaching, I will always agree with you an appropriate method for assessing the ongoing effectiveness of our work together. This typically includes the following options:
• Planned follow-up review meetings (chargeable)
• One-to-one mentoring (chargeable)
• Ad hoc telephone or email contact to address specific challenges as they are encountered (free of charge, subject to reasonable usage)
